Boston Marathon: 6 Mile Moment 2015

Erin Hayes April 23, 2015 Production, Press, Gallery Leave a Comment

Monday's 119th Boston Marathon could have had better weather. But Framingham's residents didn't seem to notice the less-than-perfect conditions.

Downtown Framingham was packed with excited spectators - gathered together for Framingham's second annual 6 Mile Moment - to cheer on the runners and take part in the event's festivities.

Middlesex Savings Bank partnered with Black Cow Ice Cream to give away free ice cream; there was face painting, free swag and T-shirts galore. Jamin' 94.5 broadcast from Deluxe Depot Diner, where spectators could pop in, warm up, enjoy a Jack's Abby and some of their famous diner fare.

Outside, DJ Haze and the Bloco Afro Brazil band took turns performing for the crowd and spectators, helping to keep atmosphere fun and lively.

Last year MediaBoss partnered with Holli Andrews of Framingham Downtown Renaissance and The Town of Framingham to put on the inaugural 6 Mile Moment. Together, our goal was to create a moment that people could capture and share world-wide. We were beyond pleased to see such a fantastic turn-out in its second year despite the cold weather and rain.

Patriot's Day has always galvanized the people of our state: the date commemorates the beginning of our fight to gain independence from Great Britain; it's a the day of our Boston Marathon when throngs of citizens stop what they are doing to cheer on the incredible athleticism and will-power of the runners that come from around the globe to race through our streets. And now, since 2013, it signifies our refusal to give in to fear and hatred and our commitment to working together for a better future.

We, as residents of Massachusetts, showed this last year and we proved it again this year. The level of coordination between the Town of Framingham, Department of Public Works, Framingham Fire Department, Framingham Police Department, State Police, FBI and Homeland Security was extraordinary. We are incredibly humbled to have the honor of working along side these hard people, incredibly smart people.

We, along with reps from The Town of Framingham and Holli from FDR, worked with the Framingham Police to make this event happen for its residents. It's their first priority to keep the people of Framingham safe and to make them feel safe. We are grateful for their guidance.

We live streamed the race live from the 6 Mile Moment with our favorite new piece of equipment, the BlackMagic ATEM 2 M/E Production Studio 4K. We've produced broadcasts for every type of event from Head of State summits to professional sports to world-wide corporate communications and medical conferences, but we'll be honest: The weather at this year's Boston Marathon made this one of the toughest broadcasts we've done, yet.

We are already looking forward to next year's event and given the excitement of the local businesses, the town and its residents we know 2016's 6 Mile Moment will be even bigger and better!

Special thanks to Holli Andrews for coordinating the sponsorships and the Bloco Afro Brazil band. Thank you to the DJ, Jon Hayes (DJ Haze). Thank you to our sponsors, Middlesex Savings Bank, Consigli Construction, The Deluxe Depot Diner (who provided power and Internet to us for our broadcast) and The Town of Framingham. And of course, thank you to our crew!

The Bandit Band Member of the Boston Marathon

EricaLeBlanc April 18, 2015 Creativity, Production Leave a Comment

“Hey, didn’t I see you singing a ZZ Top song back there?”

Brendan Cheever is a Framingham local, the owner of Cheever Industries, and a marathon runner, who has had two extremely unique experiences at the Framingham 6 Mile Moment.

“Oh, the Marathon’s coming up on Monday, I think I’ll run it.” Cheever was a bandit runner as a kid, jumping in and running for about six miles before stopping at The Chicken Bone to watch the trained runners go by. He finally got the chance to officially run the marathon in 2013.

Cheever’s oldest son has autism and attends the Nashoba Learning Group out of Bedford, MA. Each year, the school receives bibs for the Boston Marathon and after getting an email about registering to run, Cheever thought, “Well if I click on this now, this is going to change my life.”

He would actually have to train for this marathon.

Aside from bandit running, Cheever never considered himself an athlete, but definitely a musician. He was the front man of Controlled Aggression as the lead singer and bass player for about ten years, performing with the likes of Staind, Nullset, and even Godsmack. As someone with such a passion for music, it’s funny that he doesn’t listen to it when he runs. In fact, he doesn’t even keep his phone with him.

“Everybody thinks because I’m in a band that I want to listen to music when I run, but I don’t like to listen to music when I run. I just like to listen to the birds that you wouldn’t hear if you were plugged into electronics.”

Cheever was unplugged at the 2013 Boston Marathon and enjoyed the noise of the crowd, he high-fived sign-holding family members outside of TJ’s in Ashland as he made his way to the 6 Mile Moment. While running down Waverly street, he knew his friends that make up the band Tester were performing in the MediaBoss Television parking lot and decided to hop on stage with them, “I don’t think they were surprised when I jumped off and jumped up on stage. I sang two thirds of [Sharp Dressed Man] and I was just kind of like, ‘I gotta go!’ And I jumped back on the road and ran.”

Unfortunately, Cheever wasn’t able to finish in 2013 due to the tragedy at the finish line. He and his running buddy from Nashoba Learning Group were almost in Boston when looks of concern began to show on fellow runners who had their phones and spectators, “We had no where to go, we weren’t going to get off the road and hop in our cars and drive away. We just, kind of continued to run, looking for updates from people on the side of the road, or a police officer.” Cheever and his friend safely made it home hours later.

In 2014, Cheever was given a bib for the Boston Marathon from the Nashoba Learning Group again (everyone who wasn’t able to finish in 2013 had the opportunity to run in 2014). Happy to have the rare second chance, Cheever ran down Waverly with his friends and family cheering him on again, this time to the finish. He did, however, make one stop along the way.

“I just wanted to say hello to them, they weren’t even in the middle of playing. When (lead-singer) Tony saw me he was like, ‘Hey let’s do a song!’ and I said, ‘Are you ready?’ and he said, ‘We’ll be ready right now!’”

Cheever said performing with Tester for a second year was a lot of fun, especially watching other runners turning their heads towards the stage and realizing that it was one of them up there.

While performing in the 6 Mile Moment was a huge highlight for Cheever, running down Boylston with the finish line in sight was a moment he said you’d have to experience to understand.

“That last corner was everything, ‘Ah this is what I ran for.’ Everybody’s a rock star in that last ¾ of a mile stretch.”

Check out Brendan’s bandit performance in our highlight reel from last year!

MediaBoss to Produce 6 Mile Moment, Live Stream of Boston Marathon

MediaBoss Television April 17, 2015 Production, Press Leave a Comment

Framingham, MA –MediaBoss Television, along with Framingham Downtown Renaissance (FDR) and the Town of Framingham, will host the second annual 6 Mile Moment Monday, April 20, 2015 from 9AM till 2PM at the crossroads of Routes 126 and 135 in Downtown Framingham to honor the runners and fans of the Boston Marathon (rain or shine).

The concept of the 6 Mile Moment event sprung from a creative meeting in late 2013 between MediaBoss Television and Holli Andrews of FDR. The group and the Town of Framingham wanted to create an inclusive event for Boston Marathon runners and Framingham’s residents. MediaBoss had live streamed the Boston Marathon for their network in 2012 and 2013 and Creative Director Ian Barrett suggested producing a 6 Mile Moment broadcast from Downtown Framingham.

"The concept was simple, with the advent of all the social media sharing, it occurred to me that we needed to create a 'moment' in Framingham where runners and supporters could have the same experience. I wanted it to be visually clear to the runners that were coming through historic Framingham and I wanted them to remember that moment at the 6 mile. With the high energy music and the live stream the runners and the residents can actually share this moment with their friends anywhere in the world."

MediaBoss will broadcast a 5 camera-switch with their BlackMagic ATEM 2 M/E Production Studio 4K. The multiple angels will provide viewers with a dynamic view of the race, from the runners, the performances, interviews with local businesses and sponsors and more. Model/Actress Rachel Seeker and MediaBoss Executive Producer, Erin Hayes, will host the event. Bloco AfroBrazil and DJ Dr. Haze will headline live, local music.

Watch highlights from last year's inaugural event:

    [az_video_embed class="" link="https://vimeo.com/120521003"]

Events include face painting, sign making, dancing, and, of course, cheering! Families, friends and visitors are invited. Framingham State University students will be on hand along with FDR volunteers to carry the day.

Viewers may access live stream coverage of the crossroads at www.6milemoment.com.

Local shops and restaurants will be open and feature specials and deals from Marathon to Mother’s Day. Middlesex Savings Bank will be on hand giving away Black Cow homemade ice cream.

After the runners make their way through Downtown Framingham, parties hosted by Amazing Things Arts Center (160 Hollis Street) and The Tavern (102 Irving Street) will keep festivities going from 2 to 7PM. Cajun music by Squeeze Box Stompers will be featured at Amazing Things from 3 to 5:30, and funk jam band Crushed Vinyl will play at The Tavern from 5 to 7, just a couple blocks away.

Go to the Framingham Downtown Renaissance website to find a parking map –www.fdrms.org/parking.

Sponsored by Middlesex Savings Bank and a music grant from Consigli Construction, the event is a collaborative project between FDR, MediaBoss, the Town of Framingham, local businesses and art groups, to name a few.

For live updates of the event follow @6MileMoment on Twitter.

A Roast of Roasters Roasting Roasters

EricaLeBlanc April 01, 2015 Creativity, Social Television Blog, Video Leave a Comment

It was a Roast for roasting Roasters, also Justin Bieber was there.

Is it just me or is the name that follows “The Roast of” just a celebrity endorsement to get millions of people to watch comedians make fun of each other? Now, this is not something I am opposed to, which is why I decided to highlight the best Roasters Roasting Roasters jokes of the night.

    Kevin Hart
“Martha do us a favor and put your ankle bracelet on vibrate so we don’t have no problems.”

    Pete Davidson
“I’ve been watching these roasts since I was 9 and what’s happening to you Jeff? You look like someone put Seth Rogen in the microwave.”

“Martha’s so old her first period was the Renaissance.”

“You might know Ludacris from your Mom’s ‘That’s What I Call Music’ CD.”

“Let’s give it up for Shaq! Thanks for being here and taking a break from throwing barrels at Super Mario…I’m sorry, please don’t eat me.”

    Natasha Leggero
“You know Kevin is actually going to be on the next season of Game of Thrones, he’s playing Peter Dinklage’s shadow.”

“Kevin has a Napoleon complex. Kevin, Napoleon was the leader of France. Ludacris, France is in Europe. Justin, Europe’s a continent. Shaq, a continent is not a free breakfast.”

“When I first met Hannibal I was like, ‘You are going to be a star’ and when I first met Kevin I was like, ‘No, I don’t want to buy a candy bar to support your local after school program.’”

“Snoop you look like Shaq’s skeleton.”

    Shaq
“Jeff, how am I the one who played 19 seasons, but you’re the one who looks like he took 20 years of elbows to the face?”

    Jeff Ross
“Martha Stewart’s here because Paula Deen refused to sit with this many black folk.”

“Snoop…you look like a retired WNBA player.”

    Hannibal Buress
“It’s good to see Comedy Central diversifying its talent with whatever race Pete Davidson is. You just look vague man…I don’t like it. I don’t like your face at all. You seem like a nice person, but when I talk to you I don’t have fun.”

“Natasha Leggero is here, which means right now there’s a bachelor party discovering that their cake is empty.”

    Martha Stewart
I would list her jokes, but in true Martha fashion, they are all NSFW.

Justin Bieber came to his own defense at the end stating, “What do you get when you give a teenager $200 million? A bunch of has-beens calling you a lesbian for two hours.”

A special guest also supported the wild ways of the Biebs.

All About That Bass…And Justice For Jason

EricaLeBlanc March 25, 2015 Creativity, Social Television Blog Leave a Comment

All About That Bass singer, Meghan Trainor, is currently on a country and worldwide tour, which has music fans with bass on the mind. It's no coincidence that sound mixer for the 1988 Metallica album ...And Justice For All, has just revealed a major secret about the bass presence, or lack thereof, on the album.

Steve Thompson, has been the center of accusations for the almost completely inaudible bass levels of Jason Newsted for the past 27 years. Fans have gone so far as to remix the album themselves to highlight his performance. In a recent interview, Thompson revealed that it was actually drummer of Metallica, Lars Ulrich, who was responsible. His conversation with Ulrich went as follows, “’See the bass guitar?’ and I said, ‘Yeah, great part, man. He killed it.’ He said, 'I want you to bring down the bass where you can barely, audibly hear it in the mix.'”(Full interview here) Bringing down the bass coincided with bringing up the…drums of course!

You can listen to one of the remixes that provides justice for poor bassist Jason, below.

If you're like me and don't know anything else about Metallica, you may find yourself critiquing it in a different way...it could use a little more cowbell.

Cuts for a Cause: Documenting the Boston Bruins Giving Back

MediaBoss Television March 25, 2015 Production, Social Television Blog, Social Media Marketing Leave a Comment

The Boston Bruins called us up earlier this month and asked if we would cover their eighth annual "Cuts for a Cause" event at Boston's Park Plaza Hotel.

For the first time in the event's history, the entire Boston Bruin's team was slated to participate - thanks to the dedication of alternate captain, Patrice Bergeron.

The event works like an auction; participants bid on each player and the winner gets to shave that player's head in front of the live audience. We captured all the action with one of our broadcast cameras and fed the live feed to a switcher which played back the footage on a large screen behind the action.

Here are a few shots of the fun. The proceeds from the event benefitted the Boston Bruins Foundation and Floating Hospital for Children at Tufts Medical Center.

Record Breaking: The Best of the Snowmageddon Time Lapse

EricaLeBlanc March 16, 2015 Creativity Leave a Comment

Title-town has done it again, with 108.6 inches, Bostonians have taken to their iPhone 6's to capture time lapse footage of everything this record-breaking 2015 has brought our way.

Here are 5 of the best, and worst time lapse videos we could find on the internet. Your welcome.

    The Most Dramatic

    [az_video_embed class="" link="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EZI5cD0F7J4"]
This video shows Bostonians (inches) and foreigners (centimeters) exactly how much snowfall has plagued the city.

    The Most Relatable

    [az_video_embed class="" link="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wp9Xf7_9FFU"]
Unless you were "that guy" who left his car to be devoured by Juno and her friends, we can all relate to this driver and his shovel.

    The Most Unoriginal

    [az_video_embed class="" link="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fhGDAoQeC30"]
Take your pick, from the title to the Benny Hill theme, this two men, 1 shovel team has ripped its 5k views from pre-existing successes. Regardless, the high-five at the end is adorable.

    The Most Depressing

    [az_video_embed class="" link="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XDGaXfEJC_c"]
I'm not talking about their poor music choice, this time lapse is depressing, because the snow covered patio furniture and grill represent the burial of summer and happiness.

    The Worst

This is the worst time lapse. A video intended to show a dramatic snowfall over 24 hours, filmed under a covered porch. Let's use our heads people.

I Know You Want It: 5 times we thought...is this copyright infringement?

EricaLeBlanc March 11, 2015 Creativity Leave a Comment

Copyright lines can be blurred and it can be hard to know if a song is phareally original or not (I was forced to write that by none other than my own self).

Anyway, here are some examples of that and the true stories behind them.

    Queen/David Bowie and Vanilla Ice
Under Pressure and Ice Ice Baby
    Definitely Copyright Infringement
To loosely quote Chandler Bing, "Could this be anymore infringed?" Vanilla Ice barely owned up to it and reluctantly paid Freddie Mercury and David Bowie and also gave them writers credit. This should really reflect negatively on Mr. Ice's listenership, but with that said, which song do you think I can karaoke to without the lyrics...word to your mother.

    Abba and A*Teens
    Not Actually Copyright Infringement
As a teen, I thought myself wise beyond my years recognizing that Dancing Queen was not an A*Teens original and therefore the group was not worth listening to. Come to find out, if my angst-y teen self had done a little research, I would have discovered that A*Teens is actually an Abba tribute band called Abba Teens. That's on me.

Huey Lewis and the News and Ray Parker Jr.
    I Want A New Drug
    and Ghostbusters
    Copyright Infringement
These two songs are super similar and were released in the same year. It's especially shady, because Huey Lewis was first approached to do the Ghostbusters theme. This ended up settling out of court. Also, I’m sorry, but have you even heard of the song I Want A New Drug? Who really won here?

    Beyonce and Kelly Clarkson
    Halo
    and Already Gone
    What?
Already Gone is one of those songs when it first comes on you think it’s something else…Halo. Both songs were written in 2008 and released in 2009, so it’s hard to believe that there was the possibility of Kelly Clarkson ripping off Her Majesty the Queen Beyonce, except…THEY HAVE THE SAME CO-WRITER! Apparently Kelly Clarkson confronted Ryan Tedder about it and tried to get the song removed from the album, but it was already in print. We all know if it was Her Majesty the Queen Beyonce, that song would have been removed from the album after print, and replaced by a 10-15 minute excerpt of her breathing and it would still be number one on Billboard today.

    Madonna and Lady Gaga
    Express Yourself
    and Born This Way
    Hissy Fit

    [az_video_embed class="" link=" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pr2gfnmGFK4"]
To innocent outsiders, this looks like a beautiful mash up of two songs with powerful messages done by a less than average baton twirler. In actuality, it's a giant slap in the face to Lady Gaga. Meanwhile, has anyone even bothered asking the "ain't no Hollerback Girl" Gwen Stefani about the marching band uniform, where is the news on this feud?

All of these feuds and accusations are ridiculous, much like Pharrell and his hat, and, like Pharrell and his hat, they have just
    Got to Give it Up.

Framingham, MA - MediaBoss Television, a Boston video production company, announces the addition of BlackMagic’s ATEM 2 ME Production Studio 4K to their equipment roster.

“The ATEM 2 Production Studio is a powerful piece of hardware, now we can Record 4k video with 20 inputs,” Ian Barrett, Creative Director, said. “This is a real win for our sports, live music and corporate studio productions. This upgraded flypack gives us 3 times the camera and playback capacity combined with 4k resolution and faster communication.”

MediaBoss has a long history with BlackMagic’s live event switchers, having purchased one of the first boxes in Boston four years ago. BlackMagic’s hardware is an integral part of MediaBoss’s live event productions: music performances and concerts; live sports coverage; live conference telecasts; and broadcast television production.

The ATEM 2 M/E Production Studio 4K from Blackmagic Design is a live event multi-camera production switcher with 20 video inputs built into a 2RU chassis. Supporting NTSC/PAL/HD and Ultra HD 4K (3840x2160) video formats, the switcher connects to a wide range of cameras and sources, delivering a single program stream in SD, HD, or Ultra HD video. All this is done live and in real time with no rendering required. The switcher features a reference video input for synchronizing the switcher to other equipment using tri-level or blackburst sync. Each input also features its own frame synchronizer, which allows you to use cameras that do not feature Genlock as well as input video from computer sources.
